Consulting - Education - Artisan

Hi there!

I’m Christine Selinger - I am a consultant focusing on diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility education, an instructional designer, a keynote speaker, and an artisan.  I provide services on contract in Calgary, Alberta or via virtual (i.e., online) methods.

I sustained a spinal cord injury at the age of 19, and have been a disabled person since.  I completed two Bachelor's degrees (Science & Education) concurrently while also competing for the Canadian National Team (and winning two consecutive World Championships) in the six years following my injury.  I am currently completing my Master's degree in Adult, Community, and Higher Education at the University of Calgary.

I love creating things, teaching, and learning.  Being an Instructional Designer has allowed me to combine these passions into a profession that I love.  I am also dedicated to teaching through workshop coordination, facilitation of seminars, and providing keynote addresses. I relish in the opportunity to speak openly with others about my experiences as a designer, athlete, and disabled person.

I provide consultation on creating and executing fully accessible events, either in-person or online, and assistance with online event management in general. I also deliver specialized Disability Inclusion training as a piece of overall Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA) training within organizations.

Look around and please contact me with any questions or comments, or if you're interested in any of my services!

Instructional Design

I started my career as an Instructional Designer with Spinal Cord Injury Ontario in Toronto, Canada. After relocating to Calgary, Alberta I became an eLearning developer for the Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research in Alberta, Canada.  Currently, I am an Instructional Designer for the Stem Cells division of Canadian Blood Services.

A large portion of my work has been focused on creating educational products for disabled adults, though I also consult on projects related to general workplace training including such topics as safety, software training, and privacy.

I have primarily worked with Articulate 360 and Adobe Captivate to create eLearning modules and Camtasia Studio to create, edit, and produce video content.

I am also currently completing my Master's in Education with a focus in Adult, Community, & Higher Education.

Speaking

I speak about determination, drive, and change management as it relates to my experience as a disabled person and athlete.

I sustained a spinal cord injury in December of 2006, and became involved in the world of sports shortly thereafter.  Through my 4 year tenure with the Canadian National ParaCanoe Team, I won two consecutive World Championships (and set the first ever World Record) in a canoe, as well as several international medals in kayak.

I have also spent extensive time speaking on the topic of sexuality and disability.

Training

I design, develop, and implement Disability Inclusion training for various organizations as a part of their Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion training programmes.

Creative Products

I love to design both using technology and with my hands.  I sell handmade creative products when I have time to work on bigger projects. These items are sewn, stitched, sculpted, drawn, and/or painted solely by myself.

Peer Support

I love to chat about disability and my experiences in the disabled community. In particular, my educative products for disabled people around sex and sexuality have garnered some attention in past years. If you have questions and aren't sure where to turn, I may be able to point you in the direction of some excellent resources.

If you have questions, or just want to chat, feel free to reach out!
